Acts 2: 42 - 47 (NIV) - "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
The above text clearly spells out the source of strength of the first-century believers to live the Christian life: Jesus, the Strength-Provider! They focused on His love, and soaked up what they learned about Him from His disciples and apostles. Relying on Him, they modeled for us what it means to live as the body of Christ - encouraging and helping each other. They lived lives of worship. They:
- Devoted themselves to the apsotles' teaching
- Found Blessing in the fellowship of other believers
- Continued faithfully in prayer
- Relished the faith-encouraging gifts God gave to them
- Supported and helped one another with Christlike acts of service and love
- Met regularly together in worship
- Lived out their Christian calling with sincerity and a joyful attitude of service.
Thank You Lord for those who have gone before us, leaving an example, as we follow in Your footsteps. Grant us lives of faith that will serve as faithful examples for future generations!
