Psalm 100 (NIV)
A Psalm For Giving Thanks.
1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Typical Newfie Reasoning!!
A tourist approached a local person in Cox's Cove, a village he was visiting in Western Newfoundland and asked:
"What's the quickest way to Deer Lake?"
The local scratched his head, "Are you walking or driving?"
"I'm driving," said the stranger.
The villager said, "That's the quickest way!"

THE JOY OF THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH
Sometimes, we in the church are accused of glossing over the fact that life can be hard.
We sometimes tend to give the impression that all you need to do is give your heart to Jesus and all of your problems will be solved, all your bills will be paid, you will have success and prosperity, and everything you touch will turn to gold. If you are a Christian, you will have a continual smile on your face and always be happy. We make all our baskets, we sink all our putts, we close all our deals.
Does that sound like your testimony? I know it doesn't sound like mine!
I think the problem is that we've confused joy with happiness.
Happiness is dependent on happenings. Circumstances in your life dictate whether or not you are happy.
Joy, on the other hand is a gift from God, a fruit of the Spirit that transcends whatever is happening in your life. Joy allows you to rise, even to soar, above difficult circumstances, challenges, and heartaches.
Joy comes from knowing Who is in control and that He has a plan to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
We do not draw our strength from the great feeling we get when things go right; if we did, we would be powerless when hard times and adversity hit, and we would all be easy pickings for the devil.
No, it is the joy of the Lord that is our strength!
Jesus wasn't happy about going to the cross. He prayed the night before "If there is any other way, let this cup pass from me..." But He did have joyin obedience.
The writer to the Hebrews put it this way: "Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross..."
There was joy for the Lord Jesus even in the pain and the agony of the cross because He knew the end result of His obedience and sacrifice would be the offer of salvation for you and me. Jesus chose to go through hell for us rather than to go to heaven without us.
In the book of Philippians, the Apostle Paul talks about joy over and over again. Yet he wrote that letter to the church at Philippi while he was imprisoned in horrible conditions.
How could he write about joy while imprisoned in a dark, cold, rat-infested Roman cell? It's because joy is not dependent on circumstances!
When you and I face tough times, we can draw on great reserves of joy that are rooted in our knowledge of the faithfulness of God. That's how Job was able to say in the midst of tragedy, heartache and great loss, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him" (Job 13:15, KJV)
He knew God and He trusted God. That is how he could have "joy in unrelenting pain" (Job 6:10, NIV).

Self-Control Is Christ’s Control
"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken" - Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV).
There’s nothing you can do as well without Christ as you can with him. Any struggle you’re facing will be easier to conquer with his help.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking you have to clean up all your messes before you ask God for help. That’s like curing yourself of a disease before you drive down and see the doctor. Go to God first and get his help in all your battles.
The secret of self-control is Christ’s control. Then, as you face temptations that are too strong for you to resist, remember he is with you and turn them over to him. Remember, Christ provides the power to change your life!
But Jesus will also use two things to help you develop self-control:
1. Avoid temptation. It is just pure common sense: Don’t put yourself in situations where you’ll face temptation. If you struggle with alcohol, don’t go into a bar. If you’re struggling to lose weight, don’t load the refrigerator with ice cream. Do whatever you must to avoid temptation.
2. Make yourself accountable. Find someone who will check up on you, pray for you, and encourage you in the areas where you want to develop more self-control. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (NIV).
If you’re serious about self-control, find another believer you trust and say, “I have this problem. I’ve confessed it to God. I’ve asked forgiveness, and now I want to ask you to help me. Will you be my ‘buddy,’ a person I can call on the phone when I need support and encouragement?”
I believe God intends for every church to be filled with “buddy” relationships where people are accountable to each other, where they help and encourage each other in the Lord.
Having someone hold you accountable is tough, but it works.
- Rick Warren from Purpose Driven Life

What About Words? What Can Words Do?
Words are important.
Without them our actions lose meaning. And without meaning we cannot live.
Words can offer perspective, insight, understanding, and vision.
Words can bring consolation, comfort, encouragement and hope.
Words can take away fear, isolation, shame, and guilt.
Words can reconcile, unite, forgive, and heal. Words can bring peace and joy, inner freedom and deep gratitude.
Words, in short, can carry love on their wings. A word of love can be the greatest act of love. That is because when our words become flesh in our own lives and the lives of others, we can change the world.
Jesus is the word made flesh. In him speaking and acting were one.

Is Your Hut Burning?
The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island.
He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help. But none seemed forthcoming.
Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.
But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky.
The worst had happened; everything was lost.
He was stunned with grief and anger.
"God, how could you do this to me!" he cried.
Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.
"How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.
"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.
It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of painand suffering.
Remember, the next time your little hut is burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

IN HIS HANDS
We know not what tomorrow brings
Although we plan ahead
For only God alone can know
The pathway we must tread.
We cannot know the future
Not one minute nor one hour
Each circumstance that we must face
Lay only in His power.
It's vital that we live by faith
From minute unto minute
And trusting that each step we take
He's walking with us in it.
We cannot see the future
Nor the trials we must face
But in all things, God promised us
Sufficiency of grace.
This alone should give us hope
Whatever be our plans
In knowing that our future lies
In His sweet, loving hands.

AMAZING THINGS ARE HAPPENING!!!
When God sends forth the Spirit, amazing things happen: barriers are broken, communities are formed, opposites are reconciled, unity is established, disease is cured, addiction is broken, cities are renewed, races are reconciled, hope is established, people are blessed, and church happens. Today the Spirit of God is present and we’re gonna have church. So be ready, get ready...God is up to something... discouraged folks cheer up, dishonest folks ’fess up, sour folks sweeten up, closed folk open up, gossipers shut up, conflicted folks make up, sleeping folks wake up, lukewarm folk fire up, dry bones shake up, and pew potatoes stand up! But most of all, Christ the Saviour of all the world is lifted up.
Let's all be a part of this GREAT REVIVAL!

THE POWER OF OUR LIMITS
When God called Moses to serve, he replied, "O my Lord I am not eloquent, neither before nor since. You have spoken to your servant; but am slow of speech and slow of tongue." (Ex 4:10).
The language suggests that Moses may have had a speech impediment. Perhaps he stuttered. The Lord said to him, "Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?" (v.11).
Our impediments, our disabilities, our handicaps are used by God for His own glory. His way of dealing with them may not be to remove them but to endow us with strength and use our limitation for good.
If our weaknesses cause us to seek God and rely on Him, they actually help us instead of hinder us. In fact, they become the best thing that could happen to us, because our growth in courage, power, and happiness depends on our relationship with the Lord and how much we are relying on Him.
Three times the apostle Paul pleaded with the Lord to remove his impediment, but the Lord answered, "My grace is sufficient" (2 Cor 12:9). Paul then glorified in his limitations, for he realized that they did not limit him. As he put it, "When I am weak, then I am strong" (v.10).
God uses our weaknesses to reveal His great sufficiency;
So if we let Him work through us, His power we will see.
God's strength is best seen in our weaknesses.

This Morning The Tomb Was Empty!!! He Is Risen Indeed!!!
Matthew 28: 1 - 17 (THE MESSAGE)
Risen from the Dead
1-4 After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb. Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God's angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing. He rolled back the stone and then sat on it. Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white. The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn't move.
5-6 The angel spoke to the women: "There is nothing to fear here. I know you're looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.
7 "Now, get on your way quickly and tell his disciples, 'He is risen from the dead. He is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.' That's the message."
8-10 The women, deep in wonder and full of joy, lost no time in leaving the tomb. They ran to tell the disciples. Then Jesus met them, stopping them in their tracks. "Good morning!" he said. They fell to their knees, embraced his feet, and worshiped him. Jesus said, "You're holding on to me for dear life! Don't be frightened like that. Go tell my brothers that they are to go to Galilee, and that I'll meet them there."
11-15 Meanwhile, the guards had scattered, but a few of them went into the city and told the high priests everything that had happened. They called a meeting of the religious leaders and came up with a plan: They took a large sum of money and gave it to the soldiers, bribing them to say, "His disciples came in the night and stole the body while we were sleeping." They assured them, "If the governor hears about your sleeping on duty, we will make sure you don't get blamed." The soldiers took the bribe and did as they were told. That story, cooked up in the Jewish High Council, is still going around.
16-17 Meanwhile, the eleven disciples were on their way to Galilee, headed for the mountain Jesus had set for their reunion. The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally.

Ray Overholt - "Ten Thousand Angels"
They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where He prayed;
They led Him thro' the streets in shame.
They spat upon the Savior so pure and free from sin;
They said, "Crucify Him; He's to blame."
Refrain
He could have called ten thousand angels
To destroy the world and set Him free.
He could have called ten thousand angels,
But He died alone, for you and me.
Upon His precious head they placed a crown of thorns;
They laughed and said, "Behold the King!"
They struck Him and they cursed Him and mocked His holy name
All alone He suffered everything.
When they nailed Him to the cross, His mother stood nearby,
He said, "Woman, behold thy son!"
He cried, "I thirst for water," but they gave Him none to drink.
Then the sinful work of man was done.
To the howling mob He yielded; He did not for mercy cry.
The cross of shame He took alone.
And when He cried, "It's finished," He gave Himself to die;
Salvation's wondrous plan was done.

Written In Red
VERSE 1
In letters of crimson God wrote His love
On a hillside so long, long ago
For you and for me Jesus died
And love’s greatest story was told
CHORUS
I love you, I love you
That’s what Calvary said
I love you, I love you
I love you written in red
VERSE 2
Down through the ages God wrote His love
With the same hands that suffered and bleed
Giving all that He had to give
A message so easily read
CHORUS
I love you, I love you
That’s what Calvary said
I love you…
Oh precious is the flow
That makes me white as s
No other fount’n I k
Nothin but the blood of Jesus
CHORUS
I love you, I love you
That’s what Calvary said
I love you, I love you
I love you written in red

Ray Boltz - "Does He Still Feel The Nails..."
They tell me Jesus died
For my transgressions
That he paid that price a long, long time ago
When he gave his life for me
On a hill called Calvary
But there's something else I want to know
Does he still feel the nails
Every time I fail
Can he hear the crowd cry "Crucify" again
Am I causing him pain
Then I know I've got to change
I just can't bear the thought of hurting him.
It seems that I'm so good at breaking promises
And I treat his precious grace so carelessly
But each time he forgives
What if he re-lives
The agony He felt on that tree
Holy, holy
Holy is the Lord
Holy Holy
Holy is the Lord
Do you still feel the nails
Every time I fail
Have I crucified you Jesus with my sins
Oh I'm tired of playing games
I really want to change
I never want to hurt you again
Holy, Holy
Holy is the Lord
Holy, Holy
Holy is the Lord

Holy Week - Cleansing Of The Temple
John 2:12-17 (Amplified Bible)
12 After that He went down to Capernaum with His mother and brothers and disciples, and they stayed there only a few days.
13 Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 There He found in the temple [[a]enclosure] those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting there [also at their stands].
15 And having made a lash (a whip) of cords, He drove them all out of the temple [[b]enclosure]--both the sheep and the oxen--spilling and scattering the brokers' money and upsetting and tossing around their trays (their stands).
16 Then to those who sold the doves He said, Take these things away (out of here)! Make not My Father's house a house of merchandise (a marketplace, a sales shop)!(A)
17 And His disciples remembered that it is written [in the Holy Scriptures], Zeal (the fervor of love) for Your house will eat Me up. [I will be consumed with jealousy for the honor of Your house.](B)
This story impresses upon us two very Important Turth:
1. THE HOLINESS OF GOD’S TEMPLE.
First and foremost, the God we worship and serve is a Holy God! And therefore any temple where His presence might dwell must be holy. Whether you look at the temple under the Old Covenant or the one that now exists under the New, God’s temple is holy!
2. THE POWER OF JESUS TO CLEANSE THE TEMPLE.
Everyone of us sins against God and our bodies from time to time. It is impossible for us to live completely pure and holy lives. We need help, and God is willing to help us.
Jesus can make each one of us a temple of the living God. When God gave Moses all the commands for constructing the Tabernacle, He had the Israelites make a Tabernacle out of wood, different types of cloth, skins of animals, and precious metals. Then when it was all put together according to plan, God had the tabernacle and every person and thing that would enter in it sprinkled with blood. You see, God took common every day sorts of things and then He made them holy.
So today, God can take our sinful self and cleanse us. He can make you and I a temple for the living God.
Romans 12:1-2 (The Message)
Place Your Life Before God
1-2 So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

PALM SUNDAY
"As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany, on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. "Go into that village over there," he told them, "and as soon as you enter it, you will see a colt tied there that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, 'The Lord needs it and will return it soon.'" The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside a house. As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, "What are you doing, untying that colt?" They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and he sat on it. Many in the crowd spread their coats on the road ahead of Jesus, and others cut leafy branches in the fields and spread them along the way. He was in the center of the procession, and the crowds all around him were shouting, "Praise God! Bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Bless the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Praise God in highest heaven!" (Mark 11.1-10 - NLT)
I worship you Lord! You did not enter your holy city Jerusalem on the back of a war horse, but humbly and on a donkey. You knew that You were surrounded by murderers, yet You came in peace, and by Your sacrifice You would utterly conquer death before the week had passed. You, oh Lord, are blessed and worthy of my praise. You have saved Your people. I say, "YOU ARE MY KING!" I long to live in the city where You sit on the throne! Establish your Kingdom, so that Your people can live in peace. Jesus, I bow before You, and I will sing Your praises until your Kingdom comes and is established, and forever after.
I love You, Lord.... You alone are worthy..... Thank You Lord!

HE CALLS ME FRIEND
“Greater love hath no man that this, that a man lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13 - KJ).
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (NIV)
"No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends." (Amplified Bible)
Friends are wonderful people to have. People have childhood friends, old college friends and even from that they talk to around the world. We have friends that leave us and we even gain friends in the most unlikeliest of situations. The one thing that amazes me is how our Lord calls us friend.
Jesus is our friend that sticks closer than a brother. How can someone be our King but also our friend? The one who laid down his life for us, the ultimate sacrifice, still takes time to listen to me as a friend. He cares about my ups and downs and is there to comfort me. He gets excited when good things happen to me and is also there to scold me when I do wrong. What have I ever done to deserve such a friend?
Friends come and go but one thing remains, Jesus is the best friend we will ever have.

Careforce Lifekeys
Lorraine & I started a 10 week program last week on "Search For Life." To understand what is involved I haave given a summary of the course. We are looking forward to a great time of discovery and learning during our time together.
Human beings are spectacular, puzzling, brilliant and broken.
Why do so many contradictions exist in our lives?
Everyone needs to understand the power of our internal cry for acceptance, value and belonging. Everyone needs to understand the cause of our most basic struggles and find a solution to them.
Without insight and answers to the human dilemma individuals resort to inadequate and destructive patterns of behaviour to address feelings of low self esteem, inadequacy, emptiness and insecurity. This program identifies the cause of so many human tensions and introduces participants to the healing power of truth in a caring and safe environment.
Sessions include:
1. Life in Conflict
2. Knowing Yourself by Creation
3. Knowing Yourself by the Fall
4. Set up for Addiction
5. Trying Hard to Measure Up
6. The Need to be Liked
7. Healing and Spiritual Warfare
8. Feeling Hopeless
9. Blaming and Punishing
10. The Power to do What’s Right

Life
The Scriptures offer threemetaphors that teach us about God's view of life:
1. Life is a TEST
2. Life is a TRUST
3. Life is a TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT.

Spirit Of Truth
"If you love me, show it by doing what I've told you. I will talk to the Father, and He will provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can't take Him in because it doesn't have eyes to see Him, doesn't know what to look for. But you know Him already because He has been staying with you, and will even be in you!" (John 14: 15 - 17 - THE MESSAGE)
The Holy Spirit longs to empower us with His dynamic presence, change our attitudes, warm our hearts, show us how and where to walk, comfort us in our times of struggle and sorrow, strengthen us in the weak and fragile places of our lives, and transform our journey from this earth to Heaven!
